Jiraiya, first appearing in *Naruto Shippuden* episode 52, is a legendary Sannin, a title given to three exceptionally powerful ninja trained by Hiruzen Sarutobi, the Third Hokage.

Referred to as the "Toad Sage" or "Pervy Sage" due to his toad-summoning abilities and penchant for peeping on women, Jiraiya is nonetheless a highly respected and influential figure in the Naruto world. He travelled extensively, gathering information and honing his skills.

A key mentor to Naruto Uzumaki, Jiraiya taught him the Rasengan and instilled in him a strong sense of justice and the importance of protecting others. He was also instrumental in training Nagato, Yahiko, and Konan, who would later become the leaders of the Akatsuki.

Jiraiya ultimately dies in battle against his former student, Pain, during his infiltration of Amegakure. His death profoundly impacts Naruto and serves as a catalyst for Naruto's growth and determination to protect the world.
